Premium Tyres And MOT Canterbury
The UK winter can be very unpredictable and judging from the last few years, they are getting worse. Vehicle safety is essential regardless of the conditions but even more so in the wet. Our MOT Canterbury testing centre can help keep you and your family safe offering dealership quality car services, MOTs, tyres, brakes, exhausts, wheel alignment and batteries among others.
What Is The Purpose Of An MOT?
MOTs are conducted to ensure that your vehicle meets the minimum safety level required by law. The primary goal is to check overall vehicle safety and the level of roadworthiness where the primary focus is on brakes and emissions.
Vehicles older than 3 years must have an annual safety check which is called an MOT (Ministry Of Transport). Only vehicles older than 40 years that have not been ‘substantially changed’ are exempt from the annual MOT test.
How Does It Work At Our MOT Canterbury Test Centre?
At the Canterbury MOT testing centre, our DVSA-accredited examiners will conduct a thorough inspection of your vehicle. This includes a series of comprehensive checks of the interior, exterior, under the bonnet and underneath the vehicle.
Once we complete the test, you will receive a Pass or Fail along with a corresponding certificate. If you pass, you will be handed a VT20 MOT certificate. If you fail, you will get a VT30 ‘Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate’. It will have details of your car, the MOT test number and the reasons why it failed.
An MOT is only a visual check which means examiners are not allowed to make any changes or repairs. Examiners will indicate if you require any repairs or maintenance from where you need to book a service and continue to do so regularly.

Premium Tyres Canterbury
Have you inspected your car tyres recently for signs of damage or wear? Tyre experts recommend that you should check your tyres at least once a month. Considering the pivotal role tyres play in grip and handling, if you don’t have sufficient tread, you’re asking for trouble. Not only will it result in poor handling but it’s also extremely dangerous and potentially expensive.
Not adhering to the rules could result in a £2,500 fine and three penalty points for one worn tyre. An even worse situation is that you can be fined per tyre which means a £10,000 fine and 12 points if all your tyres are worn.
Make sure your tyre tread is always above the legal limit of 1.6 mm. In all honesty, you should really consider replacing your tyres when the tread reaches 3 mm as it will help improve stopping distances, especially in the wet.
Need Help Checking Your Tread Depth?
You don’t always have to visit a service centre to check your tread depth as you can do it yourself. Here are three methods you can follow:
- Use a tread depth gauge to measure the inside and the outside of your tyre tread
- Easily check your tyre tread depth using the visible tread wear indicators moulded into the tread grooves
- Insert a 20p coin into the main tread grooves of your tyre. If the outer band of the 20p coin is hidden, your tread is fine but if it’s visible, you should replace your tyres
